A George II japanned longcase clock by Markwick Markham, London, c.1750, the hood with brass ball and spike finials, with shaped glazed door flanked by columns, the trunk with long door and lenticle, on plinth base with gadrooned gilt form feet, overall japanned and gilt in relief with Chinoiserie decoration on faux tortoiseshell ground, the brass break arch dial with silvered Roman and Arabic numeral chapter ring with seconds subsidiary dial and date aperture to matted brass centre, the hands of blackened steel, with pierced head and foliate spandrels, with circular engraved makers boss to arched top flanked by dolphin spandrels, the eight day rack striking five pillar movement with anchor escapement, pendulum, weights and winder, 260cm high Note: Markwick Markham, Royal Exchange, 1720-1760.
