本品直口、筒腹，平底，胎体坚白细腻，内外施透明釉，釉面均匀明净，细润平滑。外口沿和胫部暗刻缠枝花卉及海水纹各一周，腹部通景绘唐明皇游月宫图。唐时，玄宗下令在太液池西岸筑一百尺高台，专作赏月之用，称之“赏月台”，据《开元遗事》载：“中秋夕，上与贵妃临太液池望月”，之后便形成了唐明皇梦游月宫的传说，并广泛流传。
