清廷惯于每岁召重臣赐宴，席间分韵赋诗联句为戏，每有赐笔墨砚纸事。另编纂事竣或因某项有功者亦常有所赐。赐砚，康、雍两朝以松花石者为主，乾隆朝改为款石、端石、澄泥者，凡七式，仿唐观象砚是其中之一。八方形制，青灰色泽，犹如八卦，形制古朴典雅。砚池深凹，倒元宝形状。砚面无边，平坦宽阔。《西清砚谱》所载 “唐观象端石砚”，为唐代新创制的八棱砚式，得后世端砚艺人颇受影响，至清代还成为端砚仿古的流行砚式。乾隆十四年，曾制作仿古十砚，仿唐观象砚为十砚之首，亦是乾隆赏赐之物。此砚石质细润，包浆浑厚明亮，厚实雅致。此砚仍有原配黄花梨盒Lot1967-Lot1989为同一藏家珍藏
