English School, late 18th century Portrait of a young boy, half length, in a brown coat oil on canvas 25.5 x 20.5cm Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been lined. The original tacking edges of the painting have been retained during the lining process. The canvas is in plane and has good tension. The paint layer is in a good condition overall with a network of drying cracks across the surface. The thin varnish layer is saturating but slightly matte. There are numerous areas of retouching across the surface, mainly toning down the appearance of the drying cracks. The retouching is well matched to the original and the overall appearance of the painting is good. The frame has localized losses to the gilded surface and gesso.
