Nicolaas Jan Roosenboom (Dutch, 1805-1880) A winter landscape with groups of figures on a frozen river signed 'N J Roosenboom' and dated 27 January '65 l.r., oil on panel 23.5 x 32cm Condition report: Oil on a wooden panel with the woodgrain running horizontally across the board. The panel is in plane with no curvature. There is a horizontal crack running the length of the painting on the front surface although this is not evident on the reverse. Along the crack there is some slightly lifting paint. Overall the paint layers are in a good, stable condition with some minor wear in the darker paint passages. There is some overpaint in the sky and in the building at the left hand side. The varnish is yellowed and patchy with some dark spots across the surface. There is some surface dirt which is smeared in areas.
