The picture is in plane with good tension and the paint layers are stable overall. There is a small damage to the horse’s head which has been filled and retouched. There are a few other localised areas of overpaint. The varnish is glossy and even. It has become yellowed with age and is very brittle with scuffs across the surface. There is a layer of dirt on the surface which is smeared along the lower edge.
