LARGE CHINESE SONG / YUAN DYNASTY GLAZED BUDDHIST JAR Coated in an attractive green glaze of varying shades that has been applied on top of a pale slip, to emphasise it's colour. The inner surface is also glazed. In places the surface of the glaze has a silvery iridescence. Moulded Buddhist motifs have been applied to the surfaces of both the cover and jar. Various kilns scars to the surface show that little care was taken to prevent it from coming into contact with other vessels in the kiln during firing. 38.5cm tall. 25cm diam.
