PAIR OF CHINESE HAN DYNASTY GLAZED POTTERY JARS WITH ANIMAL FRIEZES Made from a reddish pottery, coated in a thick green glaze and decorated around the shoulder with a frieze of taotie mask handles and various animals including dragons and tigers. Drips of glaze and kiln scars to the rim, and the remains of kiln spacers to the base show these jars were fired upside down in the kiln, stacked on top of each other. Han dynasty (206BC-220AD). Each approx. 15cm diam. (2) Provenance: the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
