TWO JAPANESE WOODBLOCK TRIPTYCH PRINTS, UTAGAWA KUNISADA & UTAGAWA KUNISADA II, LATE EDO EARLY MEIJI PEIROD A triptych of Genji surrounded by bijin, 1858 by Utagawa Kunisada – based on the scene from the 11th Century ‘The Tale of Genji’, possibly a later printing. Together with another triptych depicting women at court, many in ‘zarei’ or formal bow, where the knees are placed on the floor before the Emperor or Empress. Against a backdrop of richly decorated folding screens – by Utagawa Kunisada II (1823-1880). Sizes approx. 33cm length x 23.5cm wide. (6) Provenance: English private collection of Eve Walber (née MacMilan-Scott) former partner in Waterstones, and thence by descent.
