19th century. All five of the pith paintings have vivid bright colors in blues, reds, and greens. Three paintings represent punishment in Chinese society, and they are matted and sealed in protective plastic sheeting. Two paintings are framed, and they feature male and female figures. Dimensions: Framed paintings: Sight area: 7 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide; 19.2 cm tall X 12.8 cm wide. Frame size 8 3/8 inches tall X 6 3/8 inches wide; 21.4 cm tall X 16.3 cm wide. Sight area: 3 7/8 inches tall X 5 3/8 inches wide. Matted paintings frame size: 10 1/4 inches tall X 11 1/2 inches wide; 26 cm tall X 29.2 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Some discoloration in matted pith paper. Minor edge damage to both framed pith paintings. Not inspected out of frame. Provenance: From a Northern Virginia collection.
