Baramon - Bugaku Mask This mask for the Bugaku dance depicts a long eared (wisdom) Baramon, the Japanese way of saying Brahmin, the highest or priestly caste in the Indian social structure. This mask would have been donned during festivals in the precincts of Buddhist temples. It is carved of light weight cryptomeria wood with skilled attention to the use of the natural grain and then sealed with a smoked finish. Late Edo Period, circa 1840. Measuring 11 in. high
