Between 1988 and 2000, Rolex produced the Reference 16520, the first automatic model of the Daytona series. This sporty chronograph was powered by calibre 4030, especially developed by Rolex and based on the famous Zenith El Primero movement. Produced in steel, gold, and steel and gold, the watch has been distinguished over the years by a series of graphic variations on the dial known to collectors as Mark (MK). The watch presented in the catalogue is distinguished by the rare second series dial (MK II) with only four writings “ROLEX/ Oyster Perpetual/Superlative Chronometer/Cosmograph” and the inverted 6 on the hour-register, as well as the bracelet with the fold-over clasp instead the Flip-lock safety clasp.
