A Large 19th Century Lacquered Work/Sewing Box. The shaped quadriform lid with a raised centre panel depicting an intricate chinoiserie scene in a broad moulded borders. The sides decorated with figures, pagodas and landscape depicted in gilding on a black lacquered ground, and standing on turned squat bun feet. The lid with lock and key opening to reveal a fine fitted interior with a lift out tray of lidded compartments richly decorated and housing an array of carved ivory & bone bobbin holders, spools, pin jar and needle cases. 6" (15 cm) high, 25" (64 cm) wide, 17" (43 cm) deep.
