A Chinese armorial famille rose custard cup and cover, Qianlong (1736-1795), painted with a coat of arms of Lawrence impaling Ilbery in a roundel within a border of a gilt key pattern, 9cm high (2) Provenance: Formerly in the late G W Marshall Collection, sold at Christie's London on 23 October 1978, lot 100. The Ilbery's were a merchant family of London, Reading in Berkshire and Calcutta. Literature: This piece is published in 'Chinese Armorial Porcelain' by David Sanctuary Howard, T2, p.645. 清乾隆 外销粉彩徽章纹连盖杯 Condition report: Gilt rubbed. Minute chips to foot rim.
