A German horseman’s axe, presumably Saxon, circa 1580 Small blade with S-shaped edge finely engraved on both sides. Small, angular socket with round top finial, on the opposite side a sturdy quadrangular beak with richly chiselled base. Long belt clasp inserted on the left. Slender haft of quadrangular section with engraved décor. Long, hollow-forged grip with black leather cover above cord wrap. Domed, swivelling guard disc, underneath it an elongated compartment, presumably for a missing cutlery set. Length 57 cm.Condition: II
