A German, probably Saxon, long left-handed dagger, circa 1600/10 Narrow thrusting blade of flattened diamond section, the ricasso engraved with a continuous decorative line. The arms of the quillons of flattened diamond section, curving slightly towards the blade and terminating in small finials. The circular thumb ring on one side ridged on the interior surface. The grip wrapped with copper and brass wire, iron grip ferrules with incised ornamentation. The conical pommel with sixteen ridges and a distinct, riveted finial. The pommel and quillons with the original, highly polished bluing, remnants of fire gilding in places. Length 55 cm.Provenance: Hermann Historica, Auction 20, 12 May 1989, lot 874.Condition: I - II
