Jose Maria Mijares (Cuban American 1921-2004). Original painting on canvas, titled "Virgen de la Caridad." A Modern Abstract religious study of the legend of Our Lady of Charity (also known as Our Lady of El Cobre, and Nuestra Senora de la Caridad del Cobre), a popular title of the Virgin Mary in many Latin American countries. Depicts the Madonna and Child and the three fishermen "the "three Juans") associated with her reported miracle. The artist was a member of the influential group, Los Diez Pintores Concretos (Spanish: "the 10 Concrete Painters"), or simply, Los Diez ("the 10"). Although the group had a relatively short existence (1959-1961), they remain an influential part of Cuban art history, especially in the pre-Castro Era and the period prior to the Cuban Revolution. Artist signed lower right MIJARES. Housed in a decorative gilt frame. Work measures 20" x 16". SHIPPING Hill Auction Gallery will offer in-house continental USA shipping for $95 plus insurance.
