ca. 1674–323 BC. Egyptian. A necklace made of restrung faience beads, with two blue glazed crocodile amulets. The buff coloured steatite scaraboid likely dates to the Second Intermediate Period, ca. 1674-1535 BC, and is inscribed with decorative patterns such as mirrored images of the Eye of Horus. This style of decorative scaraboid was especially common during the Second Intermediate Period when a Canaanite people named the Hyksos ruled northern Egypt and divided the country in civil war.Provenance: Private London collection; formerly acquired in the UK art market from 1960s-80s collections.Size: L:300mm / W:mm ; 16.3g
