ca. 1550–30 BC. Egyptian. A necklace formed of restrung beads made from red, blue, and turquoise glazed faience, with 26 red poppy seed amulets and a blue Ptaichos amulet. Poppy seeds had similar associations to what they have today, and were considered symbols of rebirth and renewed life, and they were often made red like here as a reference to the bright colour of their flowers.Provenance: Private London collection; formerly acquired in the UK art market from 1960s-80s collections.Size: L:295mm / W:mm ; 15.4g
