ca. 1550–1069 BC. New Kingdom. Egyptian. A bronze amulet with a large bulbour lower end tapering to a thin upper end, with a decorative loop at the bottom and a suspension loop at the top, through which a modern loop runs. The back has a flat surface while the front is curved. Poppy seeds had similar associations to what they have today, and were considered symbols of rebirth and renewed life.Provenance: Private London collection; formerly acquired in the UK art market from 1960s-80s collections.Size: L:17mm / W:5mm ; 0.8g
