ca. 1100–1300 AD. Byzantine period. A spherical gold pendant with a floral decorative pattern, circular foot with a granulated decoration rim, and an integral conical suspension loop. This handsomely worked, hollow sphere may have decorated the border of an official scarf, like the loros worn by the Byzantine emperor, or have been used as a button to hold together the outermost vestments of members of the Orthodox clergy; excellent condition, fully wearable.Provenance: Property of an established London gallery; acquired from a private estate collection formed before 2000.Size: L:30mm / W:20mm ; 6.36g
