ca. 900–1100 AD. Viking Era. Four penannular omega brooches with circular sectioned pin loop and a fine pin; the brooches have triangular terminals with granulated decoration arranged in geometric patterns; the two brooches on the sides display small hoops from which colourful beads used to hang. Brooches such as these ones were status symbols, tradable goods in lieu of currency, and are often found as grave goods to provision the dead for the afterlife; good condition.Provenance: From the private collection of a Central London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/European art market before 2000.Size: L:Set of 4; 60mm / W:33mm ; 55.25g
