ca. 300–500 AD. Roman. An iron spearhead with an elongated leaf-shaped blade, bevelled edges tapering to a slightly blunt tip, and long flared socket; custom-made stand included. Weapons of this type were used in the Late Roman period by both Roman soldiers and their adversaries; spears were probably used alongside a shield by heavy infantry fighting in close formation.Provenance: Property of a London gentleman, formerly acquired in Europe in the 1980s.Size: L:320mm / W:mm ; 290g
