Finely tailored black wool overcoat, double breasted opening with twelve silver pebbled buttons in two rows of six panels, sewn to front, and French cuffs. Vented rear with five small silver pebbled button closures, rear waist belt with two larger silver pebbled buttons. Collar is piped in hand-applied silver-aluminum twist cord with two officer's rank collar tabs, machine-applied, and a single rank shoulder board sewn to right shoulder. Right sleeve has Old Fighter's Chevron, left sleeve with SS brassard hand-applied to upper sleeve, “SS-Hauptamt” cuff title machine-applied to lower sleeve. Inside is lined in black rayon with SS-RZM oil cloth tag, opening for dagger suspension, name tag sewn to inside pocket with owner’s name “Winter” hand-written along with 1939 date, printed tailor name “Borchert & Worth Munich”. A visor for an officer of the Allgemeine SS: fine black wool top, black velvet center band, white wool piping. Silvered insignia, aluminum chin cords retained by aluminum pebbled side buttons, black lacquered visor (partly loose), underside stamped with "SS RZM". Golden champagne silk lining with imprinted gold runes in a double circle and size “54” with black cloth tag “Vom Reichsführer SS befohlene Ausführung SS RZM" and name tag with hand-written owner’s name “Winter” under moisture shield. Black “TUCHMUTZE” RZM oil cloth tag under brown leather sweatband. A Degen (epee) for an SS officer: unmarked straight blade with white leather washer. Nickel hilt fittings, early step style pommel, with stamped SS proof “Kulturzeiched” underside of crossguard. Ebony grip consists of thirteen segments separated by nickel wire wrap with perfectly positioned background burnished nickel runes button. Black lacquered steel scabbard with nickel plated steel fittings retains 99 % finish and exhibits one minor age, lower pressed fitting. Movable attachment ring present. Degen complete with silver/aluminum thread SS officer's portepee.Provenance: Obtained from Hitler’s apartment in Munich on May 2, 1945 by two American soldiers who were shown the apartment and contents by Frau Winter, Hitler’s housekeeper. The uniform belonged to her husband, Georg Winter, who was also part of Hitler’s staff and had his belongings stored there.
