CONTACT US BIOGRAPHY: Newman July 4, 1934 - January 18, 2018 THOUSAND OAKS, CA Ann Campbell Newman (83), professional artist from Oklahoma whose works were inspired by her Choctaw-Chickasaw Native American heritage, died peacefully in the care of a hospice team on Jan. 18, 2018, in Thousand Oaks, CA, where she resided since 1992.Born in Bartlesville, OK on Independence Day 1934 to L.A. "Amos" and Annice Campbell, Ann had one older brother, Larry. Newman excelled in school and beauty pageants, earning the titles of Miss Oklahoma 1955, Miss Football and Miss OU while studying Art at the University of Oklahoma. Newman pursued a modeling career after competing as a finalist in the 1956 Miss America Pageant, often donning the covers and pages of magazines and newspapers in photographs for retailers and fashion designers. Ann married OU football player Tommy McDonald and accompanied him to Philadelphia where he played professionally and she continued her modeling career.Later in life, while pursuing her career as a professional artist in painting, sculpture and clay, Ann met fellow artist Steven Newman. They married in 1977 and continued to reside in Philadelphia until 1980, when they relocated to Santa Fe, N.M., and later, Thousand Oaks, CA.Diagnosed with dementia in 2010, Ann briefly continued to create art with Steve, her husband and caregiver. She is survived by husband Steve Newman of Thousand Oaks, cousins Lee Ann Beaty of Edmond, Kris Ladusau and Lorrie Wolaver of Oklahoma City, Scott McClellan of Dallas, and Nicholas Wolaver of Atlanta, as well as numerous friends.
