The paint medium, which is applied with the fingers, is a special mixture containing seven different elements. A brush is used only rarely. He combines the tradition of Japanese simplicity with contemporary techniques and ideology. His works of wrinkled rice paper and subtle transitions of color created a totally individual style. In Japan he belongs to the Nikikai art group. He has strived to create his own individual style and philosophy of art, however, and feels that on artist should be independent in order to be truly creative. He feels also that today's trend in art is somewhat too serious, and he tries to expresses in his works the happiness and inspiration to be found in life rather that the tragedy or misery. He enjoyed immense success in Japan and is represented in many permanent collections of note, including the Ueno Museum, Tokyo. In his one year in the United States he has made infinite progress toward continuing that success. His works have been enthusiastically received at his one man shows at the Seibu: Shuiota Gallery, San Francisco; Polsen Galleries, Pasadena and Hale Gallery, Los Angeles and Kozlow Gallery, Van Nuys, CA. His 1970 tour of the US was greatly received. In Japan Mr. Suga has exhibited his work at the famous Ueno Museum in Tokyo.
