BIOGRAPHY: Hamburger was born in England as the daughter of the artist couple Johan Coenraad Hamburger (1809-after 1871) and Eleonora Elisabeth Fairbairn (1809-1858). Her father, from Germany, was court painter to the English King William IV. Shortly after her birth, the family settled in Amsterdam. Hamburger painted and drew still lifes with flowers and fruits. She participated in exhibitions of Living Masters in Amsterdam, Groningen and The Hague, among others. Her work was well received. In 1865 she married the French painter Augustin Taurel (1828-1879) in Amsterdam . She then settled with her father and husband in Brussels. After Taurel's death, she returned to Amsterdam. The painter died there in 1919, at the age of 83.
