1枚提要：南京大学近代校史肇始于1902年创建的三江师范学堂，此后历经两江师范学堂、南京高等师范学校、国立东南大学、国立中央大学等历史时期。1949年8月8日由 “国立中央大学”正式更名为“国立南京大学”。1950年10月10日校名去“国立”两字而径称“南京大学”。“国立南京大学”校名仅使用一年零两个月，可见此校徽之珍稀少见。
