Herbert Thomas Dicksee RE (1862-1942) 'The Viking’s Daughter ‘, with her attentive Irish wolfhound, looking longingly out to sea on a windswept day etching on vellum, signed in pencil, edition of 300, published by Arthur Tooth & Sons, London, 1909, with blindstamp image 48.9 x 60.8cm Provenance: The Bryan Steele Collection. Exhibited: 1371, Royal Academy, 1910. The model was a young Gladys Cooper, before she found considerable fame as an actress. Condition report: Unexamined out of the glazed frame, there is significant rippling and undulations to the sheet throughout, some minor time staining and surface dirt evident to the margins of the sheet with possible tiny specks of foxing emerging (although this could be dirt). However, overall, well-presented in a smart oak frame.
