此书罕见，首现拍场。据天下湖南网《蒋姓湘人著述》之蒋湘垣条，有记载：《莫如楼时艺合编》四卷，辑有湘培、湘墉、湘城、湘垣兄弟4人之时艺文。有清嘉庆二十四年（1819）长沙马玉龙堂刻本；清同治五年（1866）粤东抚署刻本。本拍品牌记有“同治丙寅孟夏重刊”字样，即文献记载的清同治五年（1866）粤东抚署刻本。刊刻者是当时的广东巡抚蒋益澧。蒋益澧的祖父为蒋湘墉，是湘乡历史上有名的蒋氏四兄弟之一：蒋湘垣是嘉庆十年进士，蒋湘城嘉庆三年举人，蒋湘培乾隆五十九年举人，蒋湘墉清乾隆五十七年解元。
