Description
Translation provided by Youdao
This Guan Yin statue has delicately carved “pearl ground”, i.e., minutely carved dents or barbs that give a texture like paved pearl beads. This style pearl ground existed commonly in Tang Dynasty’s utensils of gold, silver, or bronze, but is not common among Buddhist statues. Further, elaborated carvings depicting Guan Yin walking with young child in the forest of bamboo, and other activities. These artistic works make the Quan Yin statue highly valuable. Based on the sitting style, the flowing silk gown, the head dress, and facial expression, it should be an artwork of the period late Ming to Qing. Similar drawings have been published by Taipei’s National Palace museum (see attached photos)
