A LIMOGES ENAMEL PLAQUE 'MOSES SAVED FROM THE WATER' FRENCH, LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY, AFTER CHARLES DE LA FOSSE Polychrome enamels on copper with gilt detailing, enamel 23cm by 18cm, later frame 36 by 32cm Provenance: The Private Collection of Sir David and Lady Scholey The composition is a mirror image of Charles de La Fosse's painting "Moïse sauvé des eaux" commissioned for Versailles in the first quarter of the 18th century. The picture, which now hangs in The Louvre, was copied and prints made of it and it is likely that this enamel has been created using one of the inverted prints.
