Mariano Stabile (Palermo 1888 – Milano 1968) He studied at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, under the guidance of Antonio Cotogni, and debuted in 1909 in his hometown in La Bohème and in Aida. In the following years he performed both in Italy and abroad but the big breakthrough came in 1921 when Arturo Toscanini called Scala in Milan to play the title role of Verdi's Falstaff (opera that had already played in 1918 in Buenos Aires, but Ford in the role). Just Falstaff became his forte, played about 1200 times in theaters throughout Europe. The period between the wars was to peak for the Sicilian baritone. Among his era interpretations it should also be cited before Belfagor Respighi, in the 1923 season at La Scala. He left the scene in 1959 and in recent years devoted herself to taking a course at the Conservatory of Pesaro. Photographic portrait of the famous baritone autographed Tina Poli Randaccio.
