A large George III cut-glass six light chandelier, c.1780, surmounted with ten twisted stems united by hanging droplets above central stems, with pointed finials and further hanging faceted droplets uniting the wrythen arms, probable later elements, 85cm wide, 102cm high. Provenance - Sotheby’s’ 1992 sale of the contents of Groombridge Place, near Tunbridge Wells, valued in the 1930 inventory of the house at £100. Reputedly one one of a pair of chandeliers ordered by Robert Burges in 1792, the other example having crashed to the ground during a party.
