款识：丁亥初冬石牛老牧胡念祖。 钤印：念祖、胡 胡念祖（1927～2019），湖南益阳人。1948年于南京奉国画大师黄君壁为师，研习山水画。1951年于台湾师范学院艺术系任教，并就教于浦心余教授研究北宗山水画，嗣后自树一格，以精湛的传统笔墨汲古融今，大师格局形成。1985年获美国杜威大学荣誉博士学位。1988年自纽约返国，任教于国立艺术学院及国立台湾艺术专科学校。
