Basilius Besler (German, 1561-1629) Strich Nodendron; Piper Indicum filiquis flavis; Lilium fatuum; Caryophyllus maior indic, florae multiplice aureo four hand-coloured engravings from 'Hortus Eystettensis' 49 x 41cm (4) Provenance: Farm House, Farm Street, Mayfair, London. Condition report: Strich Nonendron: The paper has discoloured to a light brown. A diagonal crease top left corner. A few small black spots lower right corner, one with a hole in in. Some text showing through the paper. Colours good. Piper: Horizontal creases across centre. A tear and some paper patch repairs in lower right quarter next to the stem, and a little light staining nearby. Small tear lower right edge. Paper has lightly discoloured. Text showing through the paer a little. Colours good. Liliun fatuum: Two horizontal creases running across the centre of the picture. A little cockling at the left edge. Some dark dirt next to lilies, in lower right corner and left edge. A small tear to the right of the left steam. A few scattered specks of dirt. Caryophyllus: The paper has discoloured to a light brown. Scattered dots of damage to the paper in top area and lower margin which appear to have been partially restored with paper or pale paint. The paint on the orange flowers appears faint and damaged with pale speckles. A few light creases to the paper and a little cockling at the edges. Text showing through a little. A few small black or dark brown spot stains. None seen outside of glazed frames. Size, including frame 57.5cm x 66cm
