North Italian School, early 17th century St Barbara holding a palm frond, with her tower oil on canvas laid down on panel, octagonal, with painted border 51 x 37cm Provenance: Folly Mill, Thaxted, Essex. Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been laid onto a wooden panel. The surface texture of the painting is uneven and there are areas of slightly raised paint. Scattered areas of overpaint are present across the surface which are yellowed and slightly darkened compared to the original. The surface gloss is semi-matte. The board has suffered from woodworm damage although this does not appear to be active.
