Circle of John Anthony Puller (1821-1867) A wooded landscape with figures and horses by a gate and cottage oil on canvas 25 x 17.5cm Provenance: Folly Mill, Thaxted, Essex. Condition report: Oil on canvas which appears to be unlined. The canvas tension is good and the picture is in plane. There are localised areas of raised, wrinkled paint, vertically orientated and following the canvas weave. Retouchings are mainly localised in the darker areas, reinforcing elements of the composition and are well matched to the original. The varnish is very glossy in some areas and no longer adequately saturating the paint layers below. There is a smeary layer of surface dirt present.
