A fine late 19th century Indian silver twin handled trophy cup by Heerappa Boochena, Poona, circa 1883, with leaf embellished high loop handles, a foliate band, native infantry at a rifle meeting to front and back, acanthus to a band and the domed foot, presentation engraved, 35.5cm (14in) high, 2144g (68.95 oz) Inscribed 'Central Rifle Meeting 1883. Deccan Cup won by 9th Regiment N. I. ...' and names of the participants. Unfortunately little is known of this maker Heerappa Boochena, other than that he worked out of the city of Pune (formerly Poona) in the latter part of the 19th century.
