PROVENANCE: From private collections of Joseph (Joe) M. Adam, 1931-2017, Myrtle Beach with his loving wife Adelia.After graduating from High School in New Jersey, he served in the US Army as part of the occupation forces in Germany at the end of WWII. With the help of the G.I. Bill, he graduated from Trenton State Teacher's College, then attended Michigan State College where he received his engineering degree he met also his wife Adelia, they returned to her hometown of Karlsruhe Germany. While working in the Aerospace industry his team developed and worked on numerous rocket propulsion systems as well as hypersonic aircraft.In their leisure time they enjoyed visiting nearby countries. Where they found an admiration for some of the amazing antiques they came across. Often time they would purchase items and research the historical value during the week. While they were able to find many European antiques the ones they found most intriguing where those of Chinese origin. As their collection grew they gained significant insight on the true value of each piece.After three decades living abroad they were transferred back to the states where they found a home that would hold their abundant collection in South Carolina.We are honored to have been chosen to represent the estate of Joseph (Joe) Adam with the fine antiques that they accumulated. Four Highlighted Lots from this Prominent Provenance, Lot 69, 71, 179, and 459. Dimensions: Height: 26.5 cm, Diam.: 31 cm Chinese Yuan Dynasty Blue & white Flowers motif Porcelain Jar. This porcelain has an round open mouth with a slightly out-turned lip, short neck leads to a convex bulging mid belly with a shr ink bottom, raised on the ring foot base slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white base color which contrast against blue fine color, depicted of a bird swims over the Lishui river surrounded with flowers bloom with fresh foliage and interlocking tendril, enclosed with scrolling ruyi and lychee ornament. Blue and white porcelain in Chinese it is called Qing Hua Ci. It is the most important variety of China porcelain. It was originated in the Yuan Dynasty. Its color does not easily fade and durability is longer. It used cobaltous oxide as the colorant. The white glaze is thick, smooth with contrast color. While the blue and white glaze used plain materials, elegant and pleasant. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark greyish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
