Y A LOUIS XV KINWOOD TULIPWOOD AND ORMOLU MOUNTED BUREAU PLAT SECOND QUARTER 18TH CENTURY The serpentine top above an arrangement of ten opposing drawers, the sides with bearded and plumed mask mounts, on cabriole legs ending in sabots 78cm high, 136cm wide, 70cm deep Condition Report: Marks, scratches, chips, splits and abrasions consistent with age and use Some sections of replacement and repairs to veneers including some filler in some areas. The leather inset top loose from the desk in the central front area; some fading, marks and stains including some circular impressions; some filler around the edge where the gilt tooled leather inset meets the crossbanded surround. A small fillet of wood to the side of one lock possibly suggesting it is a later replacement to the central drawer. Oak drawer linings. The ormolu mask and cornucopia mounts to each end with some filled holes around them, and the mask mounts are not curved to the bombe shape of the commode which possibly suggests that they might not be the original mounts. There are signs of previous handles with round shadows to the central drawer; the gilt metal handles all match and the keyholes to the handles are slightly larger than the keyholes to the drawer fronts possibly suggesting that if the handles are later to the central drawer the handles might all be later.
