A pair of Victorian cast iron and brass fire dogs, circa 1880, in the form of seated lions, each modelled with mouth agape their paws supporting the brass bar, each 36.5cm high, 28cm wide For a similar pair see lot 1308, Sotheby's Barnwell Manor and Castle sale, 2002 sold for £717 (inc. premium) Condition Report: Both with paint loss and surface wear consistent with age and use for the their intended purpose by a working fireplace. Some black paint has been later applied. One of the brass horizontal spirally reeded bars with slight movement and not quite horizontal. Some casting holes.
