PROVENANCE: From the private collections of Madame Kimball, of Boston, Massachusetts, by inheritance. Records bought from AMEUBLEMENTS ANCIENS, Faiences & Porcelaines, Bibelots & Tapisseries Anciennes, 3 Rue Des Saints-Peres, Paris (6). Dealers in Works of Art & Antiques, Curios, Armor, Plate, China, Jewels, etc. Measurements: 2.625in x7in x 7in Chinese Yuan Dynasty Period, Blue & white dragon motif porcelain plate. Potted in shallow vessel form, thick and large, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, with straight open lip, raised with round shallow draft, slight concave base. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the cobalt blue, depicted of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. The glaze is seamless and gives off a beautiful luster, with the colors maintaining excellent vibrancy. The underside unglazed, revealed the reddish-creme ground and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks with edge-cut foot rim.
