Connaught Two reverse-painted glass paintings with gouache-painted backgrounds, both mats with inked inscriptions to bottom right corner: BY J. STEWART; the back of R. M. S. Leinster with paper label and penciled inscription: 'Painted on board the Yacht Halcyon (?) / By J. Stewart January 1870', the R. M. S. Connaught with 'JS' initials at the bottom right corner and with paper label to the back with penciled inscription: 'Painted by J. Stewart / January 1870'.. Sight of each 6 x 8 1/4 inches (15.3 by 21 cm), frames 13 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches (34.3 by 44.4 cm). These two Royal Mail Ships, ordered in 1859, were owned by the The City of Dublin Steam Packet Company, their busiest and most valuable route being between Kingstown (Dún Laoghaire), Ireland and Holyhead, Wales.
