22nd-20th century BC. A bronze stamp seal in the form of a recumbent quadruped, accompanied by a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 37 x 55 x 13mm. This is a compartmented seal depicting a recumbent quadruped, not easily identified as to the precise animal, but perhaps a feline or bovine. The compartments are standing on a solid base, which has a handle formed of a strip of bronze. The animals has a large eye, a tail with tufted end, and there are diagonal zig-zag bands over its body. This is a seal from eastern Iran or Afghanistan, c. 2200-2000 B.C. The top of the head is a little crushed and the handle worn, but generally this piece is in very good condition.' 35 grams, 54mm (2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection number 6, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; and accompanied by an original typed and signed scholarly note by the Professor.
