Palaeolithic, 500,000-400,000 years BP. Group comprising: mixed Clactonian flint implements of typically crude style; all inked 'TWYDALL' and with old Rochester museum reference numbers. 4.2 kg total, 8.2-15.4cm (3 1/4 - 6"). From a North Yorkshire collection formed since the 1980s; thence by descent; found Twydall, Kent, UK; accompanied by two invoices dated 3 and 8 March 1993. Early flint implements were collected at Twydall, near Gillingham, Kent, in the early 20th century and many were given to Rochester Museum by Mr Richard Jones of Welling, Kent and later deaccessioned; these pieces, with accession numbers, are almost certainly from that group.
