Mainly 13th-19th century AD. A mixed group of weights including discoid and triangular examples with crowned fleur de lys, concentric circles, geometric, initialled and other designs; one with crowned 8oz mark stamped 'IMPERIAL STANDARD DIXON & VARDY' with other crowned initials. 1.4 kg total, 33-67mm (1 1/4 - 2 1/2"). From a North Yorkshire collection formed since the 1980s; thence by descent. The firm Dixon & Vardy was founded in 1798 in Bilston Street, Wolverhampton, and was absorbed pre 1866 into Meynell of Wolverhampton. In 1828-1829 the company was described as 'of Bilston Street' and in 1843 described as 'Dixon and Fell (late Vardey)'. The company made beer cocks, gas fittings etc. [9, No Reserve]
