Description
Translation provided by Youdao
15th-16th century AD. A bronze seal matrix with tapering handle terminating in a suspension loop with a ring, circular matrix device with an incised monogram. See similar sample in PAS under nos. SUR-773C4D, KENT-F3EDF4 or SUR-013712. 7.5 grams, 37mm (1 1/2"). Property of a gentleman from Vienna; from his private collection formed since 1970. The matrix is not a personal seal, but would have been purchased 'off the shelf', and represents a seal of somebody who commissioned it to be used as his own personal seal. The monogram is bearing the Greek letters X and P i.e. the initials of Christ, but the Chrismon was widely used in the Western World, especially by clergy.
