Description
Translation provided by Youdao
17th-18th century AD. A bronze Corpus Christi wearing crown of thorns and loin cloth; pierced through the hands and feet. See Mu?nter, F., Siunbilder und Kunstvorstellungen der alten Christen, Altona, 1825; Capello, V., La crocifissione fra fede, arte e scienza, Bologna, 2017. 56.9 grams, 82mm (3 1/4"). Property of a West Essex gentleman; formerly in a 1980s private collection. The artist, probably Italian, with extraordinary dedication and sensitivity, created a still living Christ, afflicted by suffering and with his gaze still turned to the sky. The artist has paid great attention to detail, with particular care taken over the softly curled hair, tense musculature, and protruding ribs. [No Reserve]
