Translation provided by Youdao
3rd century AD. A D-section silver hoop with tapering shank and flat scaphoid bezel, central ovoid raised panel inscribed 'V / ?EMIN / O' for Legio V Gemina. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L., Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 246, for type. 6.70 grams, 25.10mm overall, 13.00x15.69mm internal diameter (approximate size British J, USA 4 3/4, Europe 9.20, Japan 9) (1"). From a North Yorkshire collection formed since the 1980s; thence by descent. The Legio V Gemina (5th twin legion) was probably a short-lived 2nd-3rd century unit whose name appears on ceramic bricks dating from 114 AD from Vindobona, modern Vienna. The better-known Legio X Gemina (10th twin legion) was stationed in the same area from the early 2nd to the 5th century. The Legio V may have been incorporated into the Legio X in one of the re-organisations of the frontier units. [No Reserve]
